Glittering lights, dazzling dresses, and illuminating fireworks, and bursting fire crackers-that’s Diwali for the most. But for us, who also have another identity as iridiumites, Diwali at iridium this year transformed into something more; it became synonymous to companionship and camaraderie. We pushed our chairs back, switched off the computers, left our desk and gathered at the terrace to light up, not only candles, but also each other’s hearts with the glow of friendship.

The official mail on 24th created the background by giving a gist of what we can expect—ethnic attire, activity, and fireworks. In the morning huddle that day, Sujana too explained as much. But, even she could not prepare us what was to follow on the 25th. Many people turned up in their ethnic best, those who could not manage to do so made it a point to, at least, put on their best apparels. The whole office was in a festive mood. Every smiling face and a more enthusiastic body language gave away the whole story. Something special may happen.

By 4pm the terrace was decked up in garlands, and a small portion was soon transformed into a perfect place to do the puja. As soon as the clock struck five, the programmes began. The five tables at the terrace with white canvases, newspapers, scissors, and glue sticks on them were indicating the unfolding of some interesting activities. And the announcement came pretty soon– a collage competition was about to start. “Create a theme of your choice, and add a banner, if you wish”, was the basic direction. A few moments later the five teams were rigorously trying to pull out the best creative rabbit out of their hats.

Once the 15 minutes deadline was crossed, came the next part. The teams now needed to present their theme to the five judges, who too were selected from the participating teams. The teams showed off their creations one by one, while Team 1 stressed on female power, Team 2 displayed what brightness means, and created a montage of cityscapes and smiling faces. Awesome stuff guys! Teams 3 and 4 too were not far behind. They highlighted the festive season and the dazzling and glittering sides of Diwali, Dhanteras, and Laxmi Puja. Team 5 tried to create something different, and their canvas portrayed anti-corruption slogans.

The best part was there were less sound and more lights in this whole show. Though people lighted a few bombs, but they never got careless. The image of every employee lighting each other’s fire sticks, once again brought out the true spirit of Diwali. This is a time when we cross the mythological significance of the whole exercise, and imbue it with human relationships.

Amidst all this mirth, the expectation to know the name of the winner of the competition never diminished a bit. The small huddle surrounding Bharathi and Mr Vinod proved as much. While Team 3 came up trumps in the competition, Team 4 got the judge’s choice award. When Vinod Sir was handing over the bags full of goodies, they also symbolised the end of the eventful day. While leaving the office on that day, we also carried something more than the gifts. We carried the warmth of team spirit and the warmth of affection. We knew the candles of enthusiasm will keep burning in our heart for a long time.

iss Diwali mein hum Do Diye jyada jaalaye!!!

2 months..That’s the time it took for the Interns to be groomed into Professionals who have left us with some unforgettable and profound memories. The younger lot coming from different parts of the country (Delhi, Jalandhar, Guwahati and others) were very unique in their own way. Every intern was a bunch of talent possessing knowledge in different domains.

Right from day one, the Interns were into serious business. Under the guidance of Technical Manager Sreekanth , Archie & Nishanth they were divided into teams handling different projects which include an Accounting Software for SME’s, a video application, a CRM strategy for managing a company’s interactions with customers, clients and sales prospects, a cab routing application to manage and get best routes for employees opting for cabs, a report builder application for generating different kind of reports depending on the requirement among others. It dint take much time for them to get adapted to the working environment and following II’s routine and work ethics. They had their daily huddles, followed the project management tool and also were a part of the monthly huddle giving their share of the experiences they had.

Apart from serious work, they made their presence felt during the tea breaks to the entire office where each member of the intern gang made sure that every other intern get their share of BPL (Bump pe laath). The most funniest guy, Sailesh was also one of the lucky ones to get it from the Interns. We also had a couple of knowledge impart sessions where the interns did get a chance to educate us on adobe illustrator and desktop shortcuts and others. All of us had a great time having the interns around and would be definitely missing them in the days to come. Last but not the least they have gifted us with some reminiscing memories of the time spent in Iridium Interactive in the link below and also complimentary notes. Cheers to Iridium and good luck to the Interns!!!

As Featured in Deccan Chronicle July 18, 2011 Hyderabad

African countries are fast emerging as the preferred business destination of IT companies back home. Since the governments of African countries (specifically in East Africa) are laying stress on developing their IT infrastructure in a big way, a sizeable amount of work is being outsourced to companies in Hyderabad.

The US, which was the biggest business destination for IT companies here, till a couple of years back, has now given way to other countries like Africa, China and Bangladesh. Among them Africa is the ‘next upcoming destination’ and outsources IT Development and Product Development work to companies in Hyderabad.

“Africa is presently in the same situation we were in about ten years back. They are now planning to set up IT parks and SEZs and provide a lot of opportunities to companies here. East African countries like Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are today where Hyderabad was 10 to 15 years back. They are growing exponentially and with good IT and Mobile Infrastructure, it would take them just 5 years to reach where we are today. This is the right time for Indian IT companies to set up shop in Africa. We have acquired over 200 clients in African countries within a span of one year,” said Sriram Bharatam, CEO of iridium Interactive, a NASSCOM member company.

Having realized the potential of African countries like Namibia, Sudan, Tunisia, Angola and Zambia, the Software Technology Parks of India’s Hyderabad chapter has also been collaborating with officials from the African Embassy to help interested companies get in touch with the industry in Africa, indicated a Nasscom member.

At II every day there is a new story, a new learning, new paths explored. This time around its a website with a dfference. A networking tool which creates not a social networking site for fun but a tool that actually creates social awareness in the public health sector. The website: http://www.publichealthglobal.org was designed and developed from its infancy to its current status at iridium Interactive’s Noida den.
This platform has been created to generate new learning and initiate a multilevel and plural dialogue between academics, researchers and public health practitioners across the globe so as to gradually build up strong partnerships towards south-south cooperation; through this network, schools of public health, stakeholders and the community of practice can share experiences and curricula, transfer best practices, caution against replication of failed models, exchange learning resources and, wherever feasible, strengthen public health capacity through inter-institutional faculty exchange and joint research.

The website intends to be a common platform to debate and analyze the challenges faced by public health, development of common as well as complementary sensibilities, exchange of ideas and researchers, and mapping the needs of these countries for developing a common plan of action to address public health challenges.

When i say website with a difference it is not just the website and its concept, its also about the team behind it. A team of extremely dedicated iridiumoholics put together this website in just a matter of few months. The team – Nitu, Shabbu, Samar, Rajeev, me with special mention to Shiv and Kamil, would daily have internal meetings, con-calls with clients with endless inputs from the client by the minute. This often called for stretching beyond normal official hours which the team never hesitated to abide by sometimes even working on weekends. Endless dedication of the team has indeed made this project quiet a success in a very short span of time. Within its first week of going live internally there were almost 100 member registrations from within the organization. We are sure once its open to the target audience it is sure to create a wave globally amongst the public health practitioners and bring them together to educate the world about the importance of public health.

With this we march ahead with yet another signature success story to talk about.

Dance has always connected me to my soul and my inner identity all these years. It is my expression for all the emotions that a human body can hold, show, feel and react to. I entered the beautiful and mesmerizing world of dance when I was just 8 and since then it has been a spiritually growing journey for me. I did my arangetram(debut performance as a solo artist) in the year 2000 and since then have travelled far and wide across the length and breadth of India and the globe.

Every trip taught me something new and left me with beautiful memories to cherish. This trip was no different but yet special because it brought to me a realization that the colour, caste, creed and nationality of a person may be different but solidarity of artists is so conspicuous and we believe in it as a religion. Before I begin with my escapade details I would like to mention my special thanks to a few people and one person in specific because of whom this opportunity became a delightful and satisfying experience for me. That one person is none other than Manish, my boss & my friend and of the few other people it would be my Guruji, my parents and Sriram, CEO of our company. Apart from pursuing dance I have been working with iridium Interactive Ltd, an interactive web agency, for the past 4 years. The management has been extremely supportive of my dance I am really grateful to them that they have been allowing me to leave for my rehearsals whenever required and granting me leave if my performances require travelling whether in India or abroad. I am glad that I have a supportive boss who understands my passion for dance and gives me space to pursue my hobby besides my work.

Now it is story time. This time around I travelled to Addis Ababa the capital city of Ethiopia for a 13 days cultural tour as a part of the Indo African delegation. This trip was different from the start because for one it was not with my own Guru but one of the most revered Kathak gurus Shri. Rajendra Gangani. He had brought together 4 dance forms from India namely: Kathak(only so obvious), Bharatanayam (me and my colleagues), Chhau from Mayurbhanj, Orissa and Pooncholam(the Manipuri drums). Rigorous rehearsals with creative insights from each group and the musicians made the entire experience a once in a lifetime moment.

We presented about 11 shows during the 13 day tour. We had to work with African groups from: Kenya, Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Algeria and Egypt and do a combined dance piece. The experience was so enriching and I must admit that the Africans truly have a great sense of rhythm. The surprising bit is that each country has its own set of instruments predominantly consisting of drums. Each drum is so different from the other and the sounds also vary. Quiet an amazing experience it was. The best part of the entire show was the day when our PM Shri. Manmohan Singh arrived for the 2nd Indo-African Summit 2011 and we welcomed him. Our minister for external Affairs Mr. S.M. Krishna was also a part of the PM’s delegation. We gave an exclusive performance for the PM and his delegates along with the artists from Egypt and Kenya. It was highly appreciated and Mr. S.M. Krishna said that he would like to see more of such cultural collaboration in the near future between India and Africa.

Though Addis doesn’t have many places to visit, its Trinity Church is a place I would never forget. One step on the church’s gate and I felt a rush of emotions that made me feel I am somewhere near to supreme. I wish his hand is always over me and I get more such opportunities in life. This trip has embarked me on a journey where art is the medium of communication and the world becomes a stage to express.
